January 1: The “first reporting phase” of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) in-scope companies must start reporting for the 2024 fiscal year, with the reports to be published in 2025.

Deadline for adoption of sector-specific European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) for reporting under the CSRD. However, the European Commission included in its 2024 Work Program proposal to postpone the deadline for the sector-specific ESRS to allow stakeholders time to adapt to new requirements.
June 30: Deadline for Financial Markets Players to submit second report under the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation. From this point onward FMPs must include year-on-year comparisons in reports.
June: FTSE4Good Index Series semi-annual review
June 3 – 5: 2nd Global meeting of the Montevideo National Focal Points
June 17 – 12: 3rd session of the Ad Hoc Open-Ended Working Group (OEWG) on a Science-Policy Panel to further the sound management of chemicals and waste and to prevent pollution

July 1: GRESB Real Estate Assessment closes
July 6: Deadline for EU Member states and European Economic Area Countries to transpose the CSRD in their national legislation.

Plastic Pollution Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-5) convenes in Busan, Republic of Korea, as part of UNEA-5.2's resolution for a legally binding instrument on plastic pollution. With a comprehensive approach covering the plastic life cycle, the aim is to complete the work by the end of 2024.
December 2024
December: By the end of 2024, the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) is expected to be approved.
December: Regulation on Deforestation-free Products (EUDR) expected to apply. The EU’s new rules on deforestation-free products guarantee that the products placed on the EU market or exported from it do not originate from deforested land or have not contributed to forest degradation.
December: By the end of the year U.S. Federal Trade Commission's updated Green Guides
are expected to update the definition of “greenwashing” for business and marketing in the US.
