On November 13, the European Parliament approved changes to the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).

Sustainability has become a defining conversation in packaging. From fashion mailers to food wraps, the materials businesses choose now shape customer perception. Yet despite the abundance of “green” claims, packaging remains complicated, and the most sustainable choice is not always the most obvious.

The European Union’s sustainability agenda continues to evolve, with reforms aimed at balancing environmental ambition and business practicality. In February, the Commission introduced the Omnibus proposals —meant to simplify and realign EU rules. Since then, the EU Parliament has adopted parts of the Omnibus package while several key elements remain under negotiation.
